6 E 16TH ST LOBBY

As a proposed redesign for Parsons School of Design’s East 16th Street lobby, the design features an airy library that opens up the ceiling of the basement level to a double height, multi purpose space. Designed as an homage to the work of architect Paul Rudolph, the new lobby features a skeletal like structure with floor to ceiling bookshelves and a large floating platform that runs around the south and west walls. Large, open bleacher seating has been added to the center of the space that can be used for lectures or for students and faculty to spend time. The large stairs direct visitors into the library basement to visit the books and custom couches, built into the bookshelves themselves.
